Content

  • Art Without Rules

Ready to see what happens when we stop worrying about getting things “right”?

In this block, we'll continue our journey through the art world, discovering artists who use colour, collage, texture, scale and imagination in wonderfully unexpected ways. We'll experiment with music-inspired artwork, create mixed-up characters, explore unusual textures and transform everyday objects into something completely extraordinary.

Each week will bring a new artist, a new idea and plenty of opportunities to try things out and make them your own. There'll be gentle guidance along the way, but no two artworks need to look alike - because that's rather the point! I can't wait to see what's created this block!

  • Course Objectives:

Experiment with a wider range of artistic techniques and materials
    Develop their creative decision-making skills
Build confidence in developing independent artwork

    Specialist Resources Needed:

    Sketchbook or plain paper
    HB pencil
    Rubber and pencil sharpener
Black fine liner or black pen
Colouring pencils, felt tips or markers
Coloured paper or scraps of paper
Old magazines, newspapers or printed images for collage
    Scissors
    Glue stick
    Ruler
A selection of recycled or household materials for creating texture, such as:
    Tissue paper
    Corrugated cardboard
    Newspaper
    Wrapping paper
    String or wool
    Foil
    Leaves or other natural materials
A few everyday objects for drawing inspiration
Optional: paint, brushes, oil pastels or chalk pastels
Don't worry if you don't have everything! Children can substitute materials they already have at home. The aim is to experiment, be inventive and have fun with the resources available.

Tutor

Lydia .

Fashion and Art Tutor

Hi! I’m Lydia and I teach Art, Fashion, Crochet, Knit and Embroidery in the hub and love every second of it.
You’ll also find me in the Social Pods running activities, which I’m super excited about. It’s so lovely to talk to the wonderful members in the hub about their hobbies and interests and see their confidence grow as they form friendships.
I’ve been a Secondary School teacher for 14 years but made the decision to leave the classroom this year and focus on teaching sessions that encourage fun, creativity and learning without limit.

Parent Comments

“I would like to say thank you for the service you provided, you have always been very helpful whenever I had any questions. Primarily you offer a great service, doing lessons online and watching the videos was a game changer for my daughter as she could watch them at home on her own schedule. Subsequently this has allowed her to take 2 additional GCSEs that she would not have done other wise. Thank you very much”

David, parent

“Thank you so much for everything!! You have been an absolute life saver. There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine my son taking any GCSEs at all, and here we are ploughing through the past papers and sending him off to exams with a calm and confident son. Extraordinary! Thank goodness for you and your efforts to help kids like him - we will be eternally grateful.”

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”
