Without this amazing, powerful source of energy there would be no life on Earth. We will find out how early peoples interpreted and even worshipped the Sun, and what we know about it now. Week 2 – Our Neighbour The Moon Fasten your seatbelts for a journey to the Moon! Today we learn how our nearest neighbour in space has fascinated human beings since the beginning of time, as well as providing them with protection and opportunities as hunters and explorers. Human understanding of the Moon has changed dramatically, and this dead world is the only place outside the earth where people have set foot. It is fifty years since we visited the Moon – might you be on the next mission? Week 3 – Earth, Wind and Fire – The Inner Planets Climb aboard for a trip through space to explore the inner planets. Hot, cool, windy and mysterious, the small rocky planets closest to our Sun are very different and only one of them can support life. Today we will explore the innermost 140 million miles of the solar system. Week 4 – The Gas Giants – The Outer Planets Today we will be a long, long way from home, and yet you can see some of the planets we will talk about from your own garden. We are exploring the gas giants, far away from the sun in the outer parts of the solar system. The large and cold gas planets Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are all very different. Only very recently, with the latest spacecraft able to travel out of our solar system, have we begun to learn more about the mysterious giants of the solar system.
