  • Learning Show Description

    A calm, supportive introduction to sewing 🌿

    Together we'll discover how to thread a sewing machine, understand and use its functions confidently, and build practical skills we can be proud of.

    We'll start and end lessons with an interactive workbook to support learning, build confidence and reinforce key skills.

    By the end of the course, each learner will complete their own small sewing project, with the opportunity to share their make at the end of the course - a lovely way to celebrate their progress and growing independence ✨

    This learning show will cover everything needed to complete AQA Unit 117958 – Basic Sewing Machine Operation.

  • Course Objectives

    Learn how to thread & operate a sewing machine safely

    Know the parts of the sewing machine & how to care for it

    Explore sewing challenges to become confident at using different stitches

    A sewing machine

    Cotton thread - please avoid shiny or metallic threads

    Cotton fabric - 100% Cotton fabrics - Calico is great and inexpensive

    Please avoid stretchy, shiny & fluffy fabrics for now

    Fabric shears
    Embroidery scissors
    Pins
    Fabric Pens

    Dried lavender or alternative like wheat or toy stuffing (optional) we'll be making a small project to end the block

Fashion & Art Tutor

Hi! I’m Lydia and I teach Art, Fashion, Crochet, Knit and Embroidery in the hub and love every second of it. You’ll also find me in the Social Pods running activities, which I’m super excited about. It’s so lovely to talk to the wonderful members in the hub about their hobbies and interests and see their confidence grow as they form friendships. I’ve been a Secondary School teacher for 14 years but made the decision to leave the classroom this year and focus on teaching sessions that encourage fun, creativity and learning without limit.

  • How do I access the live sessions?

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
