  • Age: approx 14-16
  • Description: A continuation of the B5 Unit - Coordination, response and homeostasis. Focusing on the study of how organisms coordinate their internal functions, respond to stimuli from their environment, and maintain a stable internal environment through the process of homeostasis. Human Hormones: The endocrine system and learn about major human hormones, their production, regulation, and their impact on physiological processes. Plant Hormones: Including auxins, focusing on their synthesis, transport, and effects on plant growth and responses to stimuli. Homeostasis (Blood Glucose): The regulation of blood glucose levels, specifically the role of the pancreas and its hormones, insulin and glucagon. They also explore the consequences of disrupted glucose homeostasis, such as diabetes. L/O: Homeostasis (Sweating): The concept of homeostasis is further explored through sweating and temperature regulation in the human body. Students learn about the role of the skin, sweat glands, and thermoregulatory centers in maintaining body temperature.
