  • People in Business: Part 1

    Block 3

    Builds on the IGCSE course

During this exciting block, we begin our journey into Unit 2: People in Business, exploring how real organisations attract, develop, and communicate with their employees to achieve success.

Students will step into the role of business decision-makers, analysing real-world scenarios and building confident exam-ready responses along the way.

🔹 Internal & External Communication We will investigate how businesses communicate effectively, from emails and meetings to digital platforms and global communication systems. Students will uncover barriers to communication, why they occur, and how successful businesses overcome them.

🔹 Recruitment & Selection Learners will explore the full recruitment process - from job analysis to interviews - and compare different types of employment. We also examine the impact of legal controls on employment, helping students understand how businesses protect employees and avoid costly mistakes.

🔹 Training & Development We will look at why training is essential for business success and compare on-the-job and off-the-job methods. Students will analyse how training affects motivation, productivity, and business performance, linking everything back to real business case studies.

  • Course Objectives:

To understand why communication is vital within organisations. Students will explore how effective communication supports teamwork, reduces mistakes, improves customer service, and helps businesses operate smoothly. They will also examine the consequences of poor communication and the barriers that can get in the way.

To understand the recruitment and selection process. Students will learn how businesses attract and choose the right employees by analysing each stage of the recruitment process - job analyss, job descriptions, person specifications, advertising, shortlisting and interviewing - and consider why each step is important for finding suitable candidates.

To understand the different types of training and their main purpose. Students will compare on-the-job and off-the-job training, understanding when each is most effective. They will explore how training helps employees develop new skills, stay motivated, work safely and improve business performance.
