People in the Workplace: Roles, Motivation and Organisational Structures.

During this exciting block, we continue our journey into how businesses organise, motivate, and support their people to achieve success.

Students will step into the role of business analysts, exploring what drives employees, how organisations are structured, and how different departments work together to keep a business running smoothly.

Along the way, they will build confident, exam-ready responses grounded in real business examples.

🔹 Motivation in the Workplace We will investigate why motivation is essential for business performance and explore a range of methods used to keep employees engaged and productive. Students will analyse how motivation influences behaviour, teamwork, and overall business success, linking each method to real organisational practice.

🔹 Organisational Structures Learners will examine both flat and hierarchical structures, comparing how each one shapes communication, decision-making, and employee responsibility. They will explore the advantages and challenges of different structures and consider why businesses choose one structure over another.

🔹 Functional Areas of a Business We will explore the key roles fulfilled by Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, and Production. Students will develop a clear understanding of how these functions operate individually and how they collaborate to support business objectives, efficiency, and growth.

Course Objectives:

1. Explain a range of motivation methods used in the workplace and analyse why motivation is essential for employee performance and business success.

2. Describe and compare flat and hierarchical organisational structures, evaluating how each structure influences communication, decision making, and employee roles.

3. Identify and explain the key responsibilities of the Finance, HR, Marketing, and Production functions, understanding how these departments work together to support overall business operations.
