Content

  • Business Activity and Influence Part 2

This block builds on 'Business Activity and Influence Part 1'

Business in the Real World: Local Decisions, Global Impact

In this block, we will explore how and why businesses operate the way they do - both locally and globally.

Learners will examine the classification of businesses, the factors influencing business location decisions, and the growing impact of international trade and globalisation.

We'll look at how exchange rates, government spending, and national objectives shape the choices businesses make across borders.

Through real-life scenarios and past exam questions, students will apply their knowledge to practical situations, sharpening both their understanding and exam technique.

This block is all about connecting theory to the real business world - preparing students to think critically, strategically, and globally.

  • Course Objectives:

To explore how businesses are classified and why this matters in both local and global contexts: we’ll examine the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors, uncover how businesses operate within them, and connect these activities to how economies grow and adapt in a changing world.

To investigate the key factors that influence where a business chooses to locate and expand: from local footfall and infrastructure to global supply chains and labour markets, we’ll explore real-life examples of businesses making location decisions - and evaluate the risks and rewards behind them.

To analyse the impact of globalisation, trade, and exchange rates on business strategy: learners will discover how international trade opens opportunities and challenges, how exchange rates affect competitiveness, and how businesses adapt their strategies to thrive in a global economy.

To evaluate how government policies and national objectives shape business decisions at home and abroad: we’ll explore the effects of government spending, taxation, and trade agreements, and assess how political and economic aims can drive or restrict business growth both locally and internationally.
