  • Age: 11-14, KS3, Years 7-9
  • Description: "It is 28th January 1547; Henry VIII is dead. Tales of his tragic (and many) marriages will live on through history, inspiring TV series, catchy rhymes, ghost stories and a full-scale musical! But what about the monarchs who reigned AFTER Henry VIII? Who were they? How did they end up on the throne? What significance did their rule play in British history and why do we not have a Tudor on the throne now? Join in with this KS3 Topic class to continue the journey through British monarchy, starting with the young boy that a king torn a church apart (and head off!) to conceive; Edward VI, and rounding up on the uniting of two countries. This block will look at chronology, evidence-based conclusions, the role of religion and faith in politics and the evolution of the monarchy in Britain. As with most history, it can get a little gruesome. There will be discussion of executions, plots to murder and child loss. These are handled in a sensitive way, but may not be suitable for younger children. A good understanding of the reign of Henry VIII is essential for fully immersing into this block. The previous KS3 Topic block is a great introduction to this. " Learning objectives covered:"To explore the chronology of British monarchy. To use evidence to develop an understanding of significant periods of history. To understand the changing importance of religion in politics. To be able to recall key facts and figures from 1509-1603. "
