  • A Moment in Modern History

    Our next block of Creative Writing Club for Secondary Students will continue to celebrate the fabulous talent within the £2 Tuition Hub.

    This group will build on skills learned in primary school and allow students to develop their own particular style.

    You’ll already know how to use figurative language and you’ll have a good grasp of grammar and structure, but you might feel restricted in how you use those skills.

    In this group, we will be basing our writing on different stimuli each week and for this block, our theme will be A MOMENT IN MODERN HISTORY. Each week, students will be given a description and details of a well-known event which happened between 1950 and 1999. You can then use that as the stimulus to create a piece of writing. We will be looking at different forms of writing – prose fiction, description, poetry, drama – and you’ll be able to take your own direction. Each lesson, there will be an opportunity to present your work to the group for comment and critique.

    If you’d like to read your poem or story, if you’d like the group to perform a play that you’ve written, this is the group for you. If you want to be a silent participant, that’s also fine! However, if you want to have your work read aloud and presented to the group anonymously, you can do that too.

    You don’t need to have done previous blocks to participate in the new live sessions for this one but twenty-two previous blocks are available to purchase.

  • Course Objectives:

    To develop writing skills including figurative writing and different forms of writing.

    To learn how to comment critically on the work of others, with knowledge and understanding of technical language.

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
