    This block builds on 'Crime Scene to Court Room 1'

    Now that we’ve met the people behind the case, it’s time to explore the powerful tools they use to crack it.

    In Crime Scene to Courtroom 2: Tools of the Trade, we’ll dive into the cutting-edge methods investigators rely on - from intelligence databases that connect suspects across the globe, to forensic science breakthroughs that can solve cold cases decades later.

    Learners will examine the art of surveillance and undercover work, discover how skilled interviewing can make or break a case, and step into the world of offender profiling to see how investigators build a picture of the unknown.

    This block shines a light on the techniques that can bring offenders to justice - or sometimes, lead investigations astray.

  • Course Objectives:

    To explore the role of intelligence databases in modern investigations: we’ll uncover how information is stored, shared, and analysed to connect crimes and identify suspects across local and international cases.

    To understand key forensic techniques and their impact on solving crimes: we’ll investigate how methods such as DNA profiling, fingerprint analysis, and digital forensics provide vital evidence - and their limitations.

    To examine surveillance and interviewing techniques used by investigators: we’ll look at how covert operations and suspect interviews are conducted, and evaluate the ethical and legal boundaries they must stay within.

    To analyse offender profiling and its use in building criminal investigations: we’ll study famous cases where profiling helped (or hindered) police work, and assess whether it’s science, art, or a bit of both.

Business IGCSE, Law, Criminology Tutor

Hello! I’m Carla and I teach a variety of Secondary Social Science sessions in the Hub. These currently includes Business, Law and Criminology. I am a Freelance Educator who enjoys a variety of roles. My most recent role outside of the Hub has been a Deputy Headteacher which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I am also an Educational Advisor for Claire House and examiner with a leading exam board. I have almost 20 years’ teaching experience and have led the pastoral care of students for the vast majority of my career. I have vast experience of leading Alternative Provision within the secondary system and that is why I adore the Hub and our learners within it soooooo much. I am based close to my home city of Liverpool, have three children and two cats. I love music and always start my sessions with a song whilst everyone is joining. During my free time you will find me exploring the UK and France in our caravan. Hope to see you soon in one of my sessions.
