Content

  • Intro to Macroeconomics

IGSCE blocks 1, 2, 3 are mandatory prerequisites for this class

IGSCE will move to Macroeconomics during this block.

We spent the first half of the year discussing the decisions of individual households and companies, and now it's time to examine government actions which impact the whole country.

Why does Parliament want economic growth, but only enough to prevent inflation? What even is inflation? Will university graduates have the labour skills that employers are seeking, and how can government programs help students prepare?

The class will be full of real world examples to make the boring theories come alive, and there will be plenty of time for debates to examine the "it depends" mindset of all economists.

  • Course Objectives:

Intro to Macroeconomics, including the 4 Macroeconomic Objectives, understanding of the role of fiscal and monetary policies to support those objectives, and understanding of how government decisions affect individuals.

Tutor

Ms Houston

Economics Tutor

Hi, I'm Ms Houston from Chicago. I have been teaching for 20+ years in schools in Chicago, Panama, Cyprus, Malaysia, and the Netherlands. After leaving traditional classroom teaching, I settled in the Hague with my feline teaching assistant, Lulu, where we spend rainy afternoons reading the Economist. While many of you may be unsure what economics is, or if it will be boring, IMHO, it really is a fascinating way to examine the behaviour of individuals, political leaders, and firms. It definitely is NOT a dismal science. I love the "it depends" nature of econ, and using fun real world examples to learn concepts. I hope to see you in class soon!
