  • Block 9

    Pearson Edexcel IGCSE English Language Specification A Year 2

    Blocks 1 to 8 should be done before starting Block 9. This is the second year of the course.

    This is Block 9 for IGCSE English Language with Pearson Edexcel, Specification A. The whole course will run over two years, with each block following on from the previous one, giving students who feel ready the opportunity to enter for the exam in June 2026 or November 2026.

    In the first six Blocks, we learned about the structure of Paper 1 and the different types of questions. Block 7 and 8 are recordings. Block 7 covers transactional writing and creative writing, looking at the different question types and how to approach them. Block 8 is a set of five recordings from the Poetry blocks, covering the first five poems/texts for Paper 2. Block 7 can be done when convenient, but Block 8 needs to be started prior to Block 9 (at least the first lesson).

    Please note that if you are new to this course and wish to catch up and take the exam in 2026, it is essential that you purchase and watch the recordings of Blocks 1 to 8, available in the Products section of the website.

    Resources Needed:

    The Pearson Edexcel IGCSE English Language anthology which is available online.

    A hard copy can be requested from the exam board. A digital copy will be attached to the dashboard.

    Course Objectives:

    We will be looking at content and themes, language, structure and writers’ perspectives and contexts.

    We will look at characters and settings where appropriate.

    We will learn what is required by the examination assessment objectives.

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
