About this course

  • £10.00
  • Tutor: Diane, 5 sessions
  • Age: Approx 14-16, KS4
  • Description: English Language Paper 1. This is Block 6 for IGCSE English Language with Pearson Edexcel, Specification A. The whole course will run over two years, with each block following on from the previous one, giving students who feel ready the opportunity to enter for the exam in June 2024. In the first five Blocks, we learned about the structure of Paper 1 and the different types of questions. We covered eight of the ten anthology texts: H is for Hawk, The Explorer’s Daughter, Chinese Cinderella, From A Passage to Africa and Young and Dyslexic? You’ve Got It Going On, The Danger of A Single Story, Explorers or Boys Messing About? and Between a Rock and a Hard Place. In this block, we will continue studying the two remaining anthology texts (a PDF of the anthology is available online and will be provided). We will be looking at detail, language, structure and writers’ perspectives and contexts. We will consider how texts can be compared and how we write about them. We will end the block by looking at the writing section of Paper 1 – transactional writing including the purpose, audience and format, enabling students to practise writing skills over the summer break, once they know how these texts should be approached. Please note that if you are new to this course, it is essential that you purchase and watch the recordings of Blocks 1 to 5, available in the Products section of the website.
