  • Relationships - Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature Poetry Anthology

    This can be a standalone block but if students wish to use it as part of Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature studies, they will need to watch Block 1 and Block 3 (available on recordings).

    The Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature Relationships Anthology is a set collection of poems studied by students preparing for the Pearson Edexcel GCSE (9–1) English Literature qualification but can also be used to provide a range of poems for non-exam study. It focuses on different types of human relationships and how poets explore emotions, connections, and conflicts between people. The anthology contains 15 poems that explore themes such as:

    • Romantic love
    • Family relationships
    • Power and control
    • Loss and separation
    • Conflict within relationships

    The anthology includes a mixture of Romantic, literary heritage, and modern poems. It helps students to explore real-life emotional experiences and develop strong analytical and comparison skills. Its varied selection of poems allows students to understand how writers present complex human emotions across different time periods and styles.

    The poems will be covered in three blocks of five poems each. The final block will include recordings; Blocks 1 and 2 will be live classes. THIS IS BLOCK 2.

  • Course Objectives:

    We will use the SMILE acronym to guide our studies and we will learn about structure, mood and meaning, imagery, language and empathy and effect.

    Specialist Resources Needed:

    An anthology of the five poems to be studied will be on the dashboard. They will also be on screen throughout the lesson.

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
