  • WJEC Eduqas English Literature Poetry

    Block 1

    WJEC Eduqas exam board do poetry anthologies a little differently to the rest of the boards; they have one set anthology and the current version has its last exams in 2026.

    A new version has been produced for 2027, for first teaching in 2025.

    We are going to learn about the fifteen poems in that anthology; a mix of heritage and contemporary poets and a variety of themes, ideas, structure and literary techniques.

    There will be three blocks altogether, covering all poems in this anthology.

    Block 1 and 2 will be taught live and Block 3 will consist of recordings as some of the poems have been taught before in Poetry sessions.

    There is no need to have completed previous poetry blocks – each block stands alone.

    We will be using the SMILE structure to analyse poetic techniques – structure, mood and meaning, imagery, language and effect on the reader. We will also learn about the poet and the context in which they wrote their poetry.

  • There is no need for students to be preparing for a GCSE English Literature exam - you can just come and enjoy the art of poetry!

    NOTE: For students who wish to take WJEC GCSE English Literature from 2027, the poems in this collection will support your study for the anthology poetry section of the exam. This is the first of three blocks of poems.

    Course Objectives:

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
