Content

  • Conflict - OCR GCSE English Literature Anthology

    This block can be studied as a standalone block but if students wish to use the content for the OCR GCSE English Literature course, they will need to purchase the previous two blocks.

    We are continuing to cover a range of poems currently used by OCR for their GCSE in English Literature. These will be taken from the Conflict section of the anthology and as always, we include both heritage and contemporary poetry. This isn’t just about exams as you will gain a wider appreciation of the art of poetry and an understanding of poetic techniques.

    We will be using the SMILE structure to analyse poetic techniques – structure, mood and meaning, imagery, language and effect on the reader. We will also learn about the poet and the context in which they wrote their poetry.

    NOTE: This is Block 3 of 3 for the OCR Literature anthology but can be studied alone if not needed for the exam.

    Previous blocks include many of the GCSE exam board anthologies and are available on recordings. This includes AQA’s Worlds and Lives and Power and Conflict, as well as Pearson Edexcel IGCSE. These blocks will provide you with all the resources you need for the anthology poetry section of the exam.

    Specialist Resources Needed:

    A copy of the anthology of five poems, which will be provided for the dashboard.

  • Course Objectives:

    To be able to analyse the structure, mood and meaning, imagery and language in poetry and consider their effect on the reader.

    To understand the context in which the poem was written.

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.
