Content

  • In the September block we will be looking at:- Worlds and Lives (Part 1). Worlds and Lives is an exciting, modern collection of poems that include some well-known, familiar names such as Shelley and Wordsworth, as well as new, current voices like Liz Berry and Caleb Femi. It has been produced by the AQA exam board but isn’t just for exams, although it is the first time in nine years that AQA has offered new material for study. The collection is both personal and political and explores concerns about the world we live in. It also looks at relatable universal themes, including our relationship with places and ideas about home, heritage, belonging and connection.

  • There are fifteen poems in the new anthology and we will be studying them over three blocks, five per block and comparing them with each other. There is no need to have completed previous blocks – each block stands alone. NOTE: For students who wish to take AQA GCSE English Literature, the three Worlds and Lives blocks will provide you with all the resources you need for the anthology poetry section of the exam. We will be using the SMILE structure to analyse poetic techniques – structure, mood and meaning, imagery, language and effect on the reader. We will also learn about the poet and the context in which they wrote their poetry.

“We have been taking part in the BSL lessons and the other day had great fun finger spelling while shopping. Two of my children have dyslexia with T being more severe, he hates and refuses spellings. Along comes BSL and he’s loving spellings!” ”

Holly, Parent

“Our family are full time travellers and the hub is a life line for us. The children get to see and speak to adults who show a real interest in their learning and their lives. They get to pick lessons that they are interested in and have fun learning something new. The social hub was a real life line for us too. My 3 have made friends and love getting to chat to children and adults daily too. ”

“I can’t thank you enough for starting this group Amy. You gave me back my happy (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks to this group he’s realised he’s not the stupid, naughty kid that school made him believe he was. His sister is on school holidays and he’s doing recorded lessons by choice. Xxxx ”
