Content

  • Mastering Communication and Public Speaking

Open to new students, however the information will continue to build block by block, so although no prior knowledge is required to join the class, if you would like all delivered content please see prior blocks.

Does your child struggle to speak up in class? Or could they benefit from developing the skills to communicate with clarity and confidence? Perhaps the skills to present ideas clearly and with conviction would help them in both inside and outside of the classroom?

This class isn’t just about speaking. It’s about being heard, understood, and remembered.

This engaging communication and public speaking class offers structured, practical support to help students become confident communicators—in learning, exams, interviews and everyday life. This class will support the GCSE English Functional Skills Speaking and Listening requirements and/or a formal 'speaking in public' qualification such as LAMDA.

Students will learn how to research a topic, organise their ideas, and structure a clear, engaging presentation. They’ll develop their ability to speak fluently and purposefully in front of others, respond to questions thoughtfully, and actively participate in group discussions.

These are all core skills assessed in Functional Skills English and speaking in public qualifications.

We'll look at everything from body language, facial expressions and intonation to use of verbal language, analysing and learning about what makes a good communicator.

Whether your child needs extra support preparing for assessments, interviews or simply wants to grow in confidence, this class provides a supportive, creative space where they can learn to communicate with impact, clarity and confidence - and enjoy the process.

  • Course Objectives:

Public Speaking Foundations Learn how to speak clearly, with purpose and style. From crafting persuasive speeches to mastering body language and vocal control, students will gain the tools to present with confidence in any setting.

Functional Speaking & Listening Skills Explore real-world communication essentials - active listening, responding to others, articulating ideas clearly, and building strong dialogue skills.

Speech Writing & Research From initial idea to final delivery, students will learn how to research topics, structure arguments, and write speeches that are engaging, informative, and impactful.

Confidence & Presence Through fun, practical activities - including impromptu speaking, debates, and storytelling - students will develop the presence and resilience to express themselves clearly in a range of contexts.

Exam & Life Ready Ideal for supporting LAMDA (or similar) speaking in public qualifications and GCSE Speaking and Listening English functional skills assessment criteria, while also preparing students for real-life scenarios - interviews, presentations, university applications, day to day communication and connection with others and so much more.

Tutor

Rosie .

Performing Arts, Dance, Yoga Tutor

Hi, I’m Rosie, the Performing Arts teacher. I’m a mum of one and I own a Theatre School here where I live in leafy Somerset. I am also a one to one singing teacher and registered to teach in preparation for Musical Theatre LAMDA examination. I spent most of my childhood singing, dancing and acting, going on to study Performing Arts at college and complete a BA Hons in Musical Theatre. After finishing my degree I signed a record contract, and briefly toured as part of a girl band, released 2 singles and performed on a West End stage (‘The Lyric Theatre’ if you are interested) Whilst I no longer perform, I get so much joy from teaching everything I’ve learnt to students in real life at our theatre school and virtually here on the hub.
