  • Start-Up Sparks: The £5 Enterprise Challenge

Got £5 and a big idea?

In Start-Up Sparks, you'll launch your very own business using just a five-pound investment.

Whether it’s a pop-up stall, a handmade product, a community-focused service, or a mini social enterprise, this is your chance to think like an entrepreneur and bring your ideas to life.

You'll design a logo, carry out market research, build a brand, and take your product or service to market.

We'll also explore what makes a business sustainable, how to make a positive impact in your community, and how to solve real problems for real people.

This is more than a business challenge - it's a chance to discover your creative potential and maybe even spark a future career.

Parents/carers will need to provide £5 to support your start-up costs or you can use your own savings.

Don’t want to trade? No problem! You can still take part by considering all the steps required to start a business or by documenting and reflecting on the entrepreneurial journeys of our group members.

This course has been recently improved, specifically tailored for young people between the ages of 8 - 13 and is ready to ignite the entrepreneurial spark in you.

  • Course Objectives:

    1. To develop and launch a business idea using a small budget: we'll learn how to think creatively, work within financial limits, and turn a simple idea into a real-world business.

    2. To understand the importance of branding, logo design, and market research in launching a product or service: we’ll explore how good design and customer insight can make your business stand out.

    3. To evaluate how businesses can be sustainable and socially responsible: we’ll examine how to reduce waste, reuse materials, and make a difference in the local community through enterprise.

    4. To reflect on the entrepreneurial process and evaluate what makes a business successful: we'll analyse what worked, what didn’t, and how businesses grow from trial, error, and innovation.

I am also an Educational Advisor for Claire House and examiner with a leading exam board. I have almost 20 years’ teaching experience and have led the pastoral care of students for the vast majority of my career. I have vast experience of leading Alternative Provision within the secondary system and that is why I adore the Hub and our learners within it soooooo much. I am based close to my home city of Liverpool, have three children and two cats. I love music and always start my sessions with a song whilst everyone is joining. During my free time you will find me exploring the UK and France in our caravan. Hope to see you soon in one of my sessions.
