  • Learning Show Description

In this 5 week learning show, we’ll be exploring the wonderful world of emotions through the beautiful story 'The Colour Monster'. Together, we’ll discover how feelings can sometimes feel mixed up, how every emotion is important and ways we can express ourselves safely and creatively.

Through storytelling, crafts, drawing and calming activities, children will build emotional awareness while working towards completing the AQA Unit Award: Exploring Emotions: Reading 'The Colour Monster'. Each session is designed to be gentle, creative and engaging, helping learners explore emotions in a fun and supportive way.

Here’s what we’ll be getting up to each week:

📖 Week 1 - Meet The Colour Monster

We’ll begin by reading and exploring 'The Colour Monster' story together. Children will discover how the monster’s feelings become all mixed up and begin identifying different emotions such as happiness, sadness, anger and fear.

    😊 Week 2 – Understanding Our Feelings

This week we’ll explore different emotions in more detail and think about times we may have felt happy, sad, frightened or angry.

    🎨 Week 3 – Emotions Through Art & Crafts

Get creative as we use crafts, colouring and drawing to represent different emotions. Children will create emotion themed artwork and explore how colours, shapes and pictures can help express feelings.

    💭 Week 4 – Big Feelings & Safe Reactions

We’ll talk about how all emotions are valid and allowed to be felt, while learning why reactions to emotions are important. Together, we’ll explore safe ways to respond to big feelings and discuss calming strategies that can help when emotions feel overwhelming.

    🌬️ Week 5 – Calm, Confidence & Reflection

In our final session, we’ll practise calming techniques such as breathing exercises and sensory based strategies. Learners will reflect on what they’ve discovered about emotions throughout the duration of the 'Learning Shows' and complete their final activities in their interactive workbooks.

I can’t wait to explore 'The Colour Monster' together and see all the wonderful creativity, colour and emotional learning along the way! 🌈✨

Early Years, KS1, Pawprint & Social Pods

Hi, I’m Hannah! I’m a primary school teacher, specialising in the early years (ages 3-7). I qualified in 2013 from Bath Spa University and have taught throughout the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 ever since, coordinating many subjects including maths, science and PE. In 2018, I completed my NASENCO award and worked as a SENCO, supporting many wonderful families, alongside teaching. I live by the sea in Weston super Mare with my husband, toddler daughter and two cheeky pugs. Since becoming a Mummy, I have realised how quickly our children grow up so have recently started teaching part time to enjoy this precious time with my daughter. I love sharing my passion for teaching with those of you in the Hub – it really is the highlight of my working week!
