  • Bugs and Bones

    Join us for an adventure into the world of crime scene investigation!

    In this exciting block, young forensic scientists will explore forensic anthropology by learning about bones and how they can help us to identify people, dive into forensic entomology to discover how bugs help solve mysteries, and uncover the secrets of forensic pathology through virtual autopsies.

    With a fun mix of live demos, try-at-home experiments, quizzes, and take-home summary notes, these workshops are perfect for curious minds who love science and solving puzzles!

  • Course Objectives:

    Learn about forensic anthropology, what our bones are made from, how they can help us to identify people.

    Learn about forensic entomology and how bugs can help us understand timescales such as postmortem interval.

    Understand the process of decomposition using a pig model and how the environmental conditions can speed this process up or slow it down.

    Explore forensic pathology, post mortem reports and virtual autopsy.

Forensics Tutor

My name is Laura (Dr Randle / Mrs Watkin) and I am new tutor here in the £2 tuition hub. I am teaching the new Forensics / CSI classes at 2pm on Fridays, kicking off with an introduction to fingerprints. By day, I am an academic research scientist in Liverpool with a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology ( drugs and poisons). I teach UG and PG students (Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Pharmacy and Pharmacology). By night, I run fun hands on science workshops for members of Girlguiding and scouting. I live in Widnes, Cheshire and I am a mum to 2 girls, Millie who is 9 3/4 and Lottie who will be 5 in September. The sessions will be a mix of taught sessions which will involve demos and also interactive join in at home experiments and quizzes.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.
