Content

  • DNA and Body Fluids

    Block 1

    In this block we will learn about about DNA and bodily fluids.

    The session will be a mix of demos, interactive quizzes alongside join in at home experiments and paper-based activities.

    We will be covering presumptive blood tests and blood pattern analysis.

    I'm always very mindful of the age groups that I am working with and will not be presenting overly graphic scenarios or pictures.

    However, for the DNA and body fluids block if your young person is uneasy with the sight of blood this may not be for them.

    Course Objectives:

    To learn about the composition of blood and blood group typing.

    To explore blood as evidence, confirmatory tests and blood pattern analysis.

    To learn about the structure of DNA and techniques used to investigate it.

    To understand how DNA can be recovered from evidence and used to identify suspects.

Forensics Tutor

My name is Laura (Dr Randle / Mrs Watkin) and I am new tutor here in the £2 tuition hub. I am teaching the new Forensics / CSI classes at 2pm on Fridays, kicking off with an introduction to fingerprints. By day, I am an academic research scientist in Liverpool with a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology ( drugs and poisons). I teach UG and PG students (Biomedical Sciences, Biochemistry, Forensic Science, Pharmacy and Pharmacology). By night, I run fun hands on science workshops for members of Girlguiding and scouting. I live in Widnes, Cheshire and I am a mum to 2 girls, Millie who is 9 3/4 and Lottie who will be 5 in September. The sessions will be a mix of taught sessions which will involve demos and also interactive join in at home experiments and quizzes.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
