Content

  • Sports and Hobbies

Builds on what we have done so far - such as greetings, numbers, colours and giving opinions but it stands alone as a block.

In this exciting new block, we’ll be exploring the topic of sports and hobbies. Pupils will learn how to talk about the activities they love doing in their free time - from football and tennis to dancing, cycling and music.

Children will discover how to say things like “I play football” (je joue au football) and “I do swimming” (je fais de la natation), learning the difference between “je joue” for ball games and “je fais” for many other sports and hobbies. They’ll also practise giving their opinions so they can say what they love, like or don’t like doing in French.

Lessons are packed with games and songs helping children build confidence while learning useful French.

  • Course Objectives:

By the end of this block, most pupils will be able to:

Recognise and say a range of sports and hobbies in French.

Recognise and possibly use “je joue” with ball games (e.g. je joue au football) and “je fais” with other activities and hobbies (e.g. je fais du vélo).

    Express simple opinions (e.g. j’aime, je n’aime pas, j’adore).

Say what activities they like or don’t like doing.

Tutor

Angela .

KS3 French Tutor

Bonjour, I’m Angela and I will be teaching secondary French in the Hub. I’m a mum of 2 grown up children, a qualified MFL teacher and a lover of all things French. I have many years of experience in teaching French to children and adults of all ages and since 2010, I have been a private self-employed tutor primarily teaching children, most of whom are home educated. I love learning and teaching languages and am currently teaching myself Spanish. I am proud to say that I can count to 10 in 6 different languages! Along with language learning, my other passion is travelling and in fact, language learning and foreign travel complement each other wonderfully as together, they provide a richer, more informed life experience allowing for deeper cultural immersion and a better understanding of other cultures, customs and traditions. The benefits of both impact all areas of our lives - personal, academic, social and professional spheres. I try to make all my lessons fun as that is how we all learn best and so there are plenty of games and a variety of different activities. I look forward to meeting some of you soon. A bientôt!

“After a year of mostly science and art, my child has recently started Creative Writing class. From the first lesson I was blown away by the quality of the teaching, the standard of work the children were submitting and the supportive environment of the group. The tutor has a fantastic rapport with her students and it is also so nice (and great for their self-confidence) to see the students give each other great feedback and encouragement.”

Louise, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent

“I've recommended so many people to the hub, you guys have revolutionised home ed for us. Literally. After building up our confidence with using the hub, I've actually been able to take on work based back out in the community while my daughter is at home studying. Thanks for everything you are doing! ”
