  • Reading

    Block 1

    This block focuses on the reading section of the Functional Skills English Level 1 exam.

    We’ll build confidence in understanding a range of everyday texts, including how to find key information quickly, recognise the purpose and tone of different texts and spot techniques like persuasion, opinion and bias.

    Students will develop their skills step by step and finish with a full reading paper walkthrough so they feel prepared and confident for the exam.

    This block is ideal for learners working towards their Level 1 qualification or as a foundation for those planning to progress to Level 2. Independent tasks will be set between sessions to reinforce learning and support steady progress.

  • Course Objectives:

    Identify different text types and their purposes.

    Locate and retrieve information from a range of texts.

    Distinguish between fact and opinion.

    Recognise key features of layout and language.

    Make simple comparisons and draw inferences from written material.

Hi everyone! I’m Amy and I’ve been a private tutor since 2020. I previously worked as a teacher where I taught in almost every year you can think of! I’ve worked in mainstream, independent and special schools. I’m passionate about every child being able to access an education that is right for them and I’m excited to be a part of that! During my time as a teacher, I worked with students with very high anxiety and as a result I’m an empathetic tutor and always aim for students to feel safe and secure in my lessons first and foremost. I also like to produce fun and engaging lessons that focus on topics that students are actually interested in! I love travelling, reading and spending time at home with my baby, husband and dog! I also run my own greeting card company and have sold over 50,000 designs! I am so excited to be joining the hub and to meet you all. I am a huge advocate for home education and I love what the £2 hub stands for! I hope to see in my lessons soon!

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
