  • Speaking and Listening

    Block 3

    This block covers the speaking and listening content of the Functional Skills English exam, students will need to complete the reading and writing blocks as well to ensure full understanding of all areas, although they do not follow on directly! Hope that makes sense.

    This speaking and listening block breaks down exactly what you need to say, do and prepare for the speaking and listening component of the Level 2 Functional Skills English exam.

    Each week, we’ll explore real exam examples, learn how to plan and deliver a talk and practise group discussions that mirror the test format.

    Students will gain confidence in speaking clearly, listening actively and responding appropriately – all the skills that examiners love to see.

    By the end of the block, students will know exactly how to approach their exam with a structured plan, strong vocabulary and practical tips for every stage.

  • Course Objectives:

    Understand the requirements and marking criteria for the Level 2 Speaking & Listening exam.

    Learn how to plan, write and deliver a short presentation.

    Build confidence using formal and informal speaking skills.

    Develop active listening, turn-taking and question-response techniques for group discussions.

    Practise real exam-style scenarios using Pass Functional Skills examples.

Hi everyone! I’m Amy and I’ve been a private tutor since 2020. I previously worked as a teacher where I taught in almost every year you can think of! I’ve worked in mainstream, independent and special schools. I’m passionate about every child being able to access an education that is right for them and I’m excited to be a part of that! During my time as a teacher, I worked with students with very high anxiety and as a result I’m an empathetic tutor and always aim for students to feel safe and secure in my lessons first and foremost. I also like to produce fun and engaging lessons that focus on topics that students are actually interested in! I love travelling, reading and spending time at home with my baby, husband and dog! I also run my own greeting card company and have sold over 50,000 designs! I am so excited to be joining the hub and to meet you all. I am a huge advocate for home education and I love what the £2 hub stands for! I hope to see in my lessons soon!
