Block 2
Requires Block 1 to be studied first
Functional Skills Maths Level 1 is equivalent to a grade 2/3 (D/E) at GCSE and demonstrates a person's ability to apply maths skills to solve practical and real-world problems.
This course is a very good stepping stone to either Functional Skills Maths Level 2 or GCSE qualifications, or as a qualification in its own right. It can also be used to gain confidence, particularly if there are gaps in knowledge or a refresher is needed.
Functional Skills Maths Level 1 covers these three main areas: using numbers and the number system, using measures, shape, and space, and handling information and data.
If you wish to take the exam (entry fees apply), it is split into two papers taken one after the other, a shorter non-calculator paper and a longer calculator paper. The total assessment time is around two hours.
There is no obligation to take the exam, particularly if you are using this course and it’s content to enable further study. It’s entirely up to you!
