Content

  • Island Life

Get ready for a tropical adventure!

In this topic, your child will dive into the world of islands: what they are, how they form, and why they’re so different from life on the mainland.

We'll take a trip to Hawai‘i where children will explore volcanic landscapes, incredible wildlife, and the rich culture of the Hawaiian people. We’ll journey through erupting volcanoes, lush rainforests, golden beaches, and the bustling island communities that make Hawai‘i so unique.

Along the way, your child will discover how islands are shaped by nature, how people live and celebrate their traditions, and how animals adapt to life surrounded by the ocean.

By the end of the topic, children will understand not only what makes islands special, but also why places like Hawai‘i are so important and how they might change in the future.

  • Course Objectives:

Use maps, atlases and digital tools (like Google Earth) to locate islands around the world.

Learn how physical features are formed, including volcanoes and coastlines.

Describe key aspects of island geography, such as climate, landscape and habitats.

Understand how humans live in different environments, using Hawai‘i as a real example of island life.

Explore how environments change over time, including natural hazards and climate change.

Hello 👋🏻 My name is Kerry and I am really happy to be joining the £2 tuition hub family as a tutor. Iwill be teaching the KS2 Topic and Geography classes and can’t wait to see some of you there. I’m an KS1 and KS2 specialist teacher, teaching in the classroom for 14 years before tutoring and my favourite subjects (to teach and to learn!) are history, geography, art and science. When I’m not teaching, I love to read, cook, go for walks and play games with my 3 year old, Alfie!
