  • STAND ALONE BLOCK. Description: Extreme Earth, In this Extreme Earth block we will be uncovering some of the destructive powers of nature, from volcanoes to tsunamis and everything in between. We’ll start by digging deep into the Earths core and finding out exactly what lies beneath our feet and discover the incredible impact that can have on the Earth’s surface. As the weeks go on, be prepared to take part in some jaw-dropping, hands-on activities to learn about how and why these natural phenomena occur, and the ways in which they affect people and the environment. *Although this block is stand-alone and no previous block is necessary to access the learning, we will be building on our ‘Wild Weather’ topic and there will be some references to what was covered during that topic. During this block, children will learn: To describe and understand key aspects of physical geography Including: - describing the properties of the Earth's layers - explaining how a volcano is formed - describing what happens when a volcano erupts - describing some risks and benefits of living near a volcano - explaining why earthquakes occur - explaining how tsunamis occur - explaining how to keep safe in a tsunami.
