  • Magnificent Mountains

    When you think of the world’s great mountains, what comes to mind? Towering snowy peaks? Daring climbers? Hidden valleys and winding paths?

    In this topic, your child will become a mountain explorer, journeying (virtually!) to the most magnificent mountains on Earth. They’ll discover where in the world mountain ranges are found and learn to spot the features that make these landscapes so unique. Together, we’ll uncover the secrets of how mountains are formed, from rumbling volcanoes to the shifting of the Earth’s plates.

    Along the way, children will hear the stories of famous mountaineers who dared to climb the highest peaks, and they’ll consider both the triumphs and the dangers of life at high altitude. Finally, they’ll explore what it’s like to live, travel, and holiday in these extreme environments - from freezing weather to the impact of tourism.

    By the end of the topic, your child will not only know where mountains are, but also why they matter and how they continue to inspire people all over the world.

  • Course Objectives:

    Use maps, atlases, and digital tools (such as Google Earth) to locate the world’s major mountain ranges and peaks.

    Describe the key features of mountains, including summits, slopes, ridges, valleys, and snow lines.

    Understand how mountains are formed through tectonic movement, volcanic activity, and other physical processes.

    Explore mountain climates and human activity, considering both the challenges and opportunities of living and travelling in mountain regions.

    Investigate the achievements of mountaineers, learning about exploration, endurance, and the risks of climbing.

Hello 👋🏻 My name is Kerry and I am really happy to be joining the £2 tuition hub family as a tutor. Iwill be teaching the KS2 Topic and Geography classes and can’t wait to see some of you there. I’m an KS1 and KS2 specialist teacher, teaching in the classroom for 14 years before tutoring and my favourite subjects (to teach and to learn!) are history, geography, art and science. When I’m not teaching, I love to read, cook, go for walks and play games with my 3 year old, Alfie!
