  • Fire and Ice – Exploring Iceland and Greenland

    What do you picture when you hear the names Iceland and Greenland? Snowy landscapes? Bubbling lava? Polar bears? Puffins?

    In this topic, your child will become a curious explorer, travelling (virtually!) to two of the world’s most fascinating and extreme places. They’ll discover the stunning natural features of Iceland and Greenland – from glaciers and volcanoes to geysers and fjords – and learn how people live, work, and adapt in these unique environments.

    Along the way, we’ll bust some myths (spoiler: Greenland isn’t very green), compare weather and wildlife, and find out how these icy and fiery places are being affected by climate change.

    Expect plenty of hands-on learning and discussion from this lively class!

  • Course Objectives:

    Identify Iceland and Greenland on maps and globes; understand their positions in the Northern Hemisphere and Arctic region.

    Compare human and physical geography of two contrasting regions outside the UK.

    Explore volcanoes, glaciers, climate zones, weather patterns, and natural features like geysers and fjords.

    Investigate how people live in extreme environments, including housing, transport, jobs, and culture.

    Use maps, globes, compass directions, and climate data to build a picture of life in both countries.

Hello 👋🏻 My name is Kerry and I am really happy to be joining the £2 tuition hub family as a tutor. Iwill be teaching the KS2 Topic and Geography classes and can’t wait to see some of you there. I’m an KS1 and KS2 specialist teacher, teaching in the classroom for 14 years before tutoring and my favourite subjects (to teach and to learn!) are history, geography, art and science. When I’m not teaching, I love to read, cook, go for walks and play games with my 3 year old, Alfie!

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.
