    Please note: This is a
5-week block. There is no lesson in week 6, as it would be the same day as the exam.

This is the final block in a two year course. We will spend this block revising and preparing for exams.

GCSE History is an engaging and challenging subject that is both interesting and useful for building skills such as: analysis, evaluation and written communication. This block will be focused on revision for the upcoming AQA GCSE History exams. We will cover key content, with a focus on the Elizabethan unit, which we are yet to revise. Various revision strategies will be used to help students feel confident in retaining essential knowledge. All exam style questions will be revised and practiced to enable students to feel organised for their exams. We will finish the block with a feedback session to enable students who have taken their exams to debrief and also for students to offer their feedback about their experience of the GCSE History course with the hub.

  • Courses Objectives:

To revise key knowledge for the Elizabethan unit.

To revise the content and exam question success criteria for the historic environment section of the Elizabethan unit.

To practice all exam styles across paper 1 and paper 2.

To introduce students to a range of revision activities to further support their revision at home.

To remind students of exam timings and expectations, in order for them to feel prepared.

To debrief the exams and allow students time to express their feedback about the GCSE History course.

Tutor

Lily .

GCSE History Tutor

Hello, I am Lily, the GCSE History teacher in the hub. I studied History at York University and my PGCE at Sussex, where I taught for 5 years full time in secondary schools. I have worked in three schools and taught History at KS3, GCSE and A-level. I have also mentored trainee and NQT teachers, and been awarded Specialist Leader of Education status for my work in primary History curriculums. Since relocating to North Yorkshire in 2020, and having my daughter, I have left the mainstream school setting and now teach online. As well as the History GCSE in the hub, I tutor GCSE and A-level History students. I am really passionate about making History a creative and rigorous discipline, full of debate and discussion. Students who study History at GCSE level and beyond should leave with a vast array of skills in handling sources and interpretations; analysing and evaluating opinions and texts; and crafting arguments. I aim to build students’ confidence and love for the subject by focusing on the human experience of the past, and also the many parallels and contrasts with the present. I thoroughly enjoy teaching the GCSE History groups in the hub and feel lucky to be part of such a positive educational space.

“Just wanted to say thank you so much for this amazing hub. The passion shines through in the lessons - the tutors enjoy what they are doing which makes such a huge difference. My daughter is using the recordings currently, which is such a brilliant resource, being able to pause and go back over at any point to something she needs to refresh on. I wish I had access to something like this when I studied but also for my older girls who are in their last year in high school! I will be recommending the hub to everyone!!”
