Description: Transformation of the Cold War & Elizabethan England GCSE History is an engaging and challenging subject that is both interesting and useful for building skills such as: analysis, evaluation and written communication. We are currently studying the Cold War, looking at the conflict and tension between the USA and USSR from 1945-1972. In this block we will conclude our study into the Cold War - evaluating how far the relationship between superpowers was 'transformed' in the late 1960s and early 1970s. We will go on to begin our new topic - Elizabethan England c.1568-1603. This course examines the reign of Elizabeth I and the political, cultural and economic change that occurred in England at this time. LO1 - To examine the transformation of the Cold War in the late 1960s through studying the Prague Spring and Brezhnev Doctrine. LO2 - To consider the causes for the period of detente that emerged between the superpowers in the early 1970s. LO3 - To revise the chronology and big story of the Cold War through recap, timelines and practice questions. LO4 - To introduce our new topic, Elizabethan England c.1568-1603. LO5 - To study Elizabeth I's Court and Parliament with particular focus on Court life, patronage, Elizabeth's character and the difficulties of being a female ruler.
