  • Description: Germany 1890-1945: Democracy and Dictatorship. GCSE History is an engaging and challenging subject that is both interesting and useful for building skills such as: analysis, evaluation and written communication. We continue our History GCSE this block with our first topic: Germany 1890-1945: Democracy and Dictatorship. For the next six lessons, we will focus on the impact of the Wall Street Crash in 1929 and the resulting depression that had such a devastating effect on Germany. We will analyse the rise of the Nazi party through the early 1930s and evaluate the factors that led to Adolf Hitler being elected as Chancellor. We will then study the establishment of the Nazi dictatorship and removal of democracy in Germany through the mid 1930s. We will conclude this block by exploring Nazi economic policies and persecution of particular groups, with a focus on the Jewish community and the Holocaust of 1942-1945. L/O: LO1: To explain why the Wall Street Crash and Depression had such a big impact on Germany. LO2: To evaluate the factors responsible for the rise of Nazi Party in the early 1930s. LO3: To describe the process in which Adolf Hitler was elected Chancellor of Germany in January 1933. LO4: To explain the way that democracy was dismantled and dictatorship established in Germany in the mid 1930s. LO5: To describe Nazi economic policies and persecution of particular groups, particularly the Jewish community. LO6: To evaluate the claim that the Holocaust was inevitable when the Nazi Party came to power in 1933.
