About this course

  • £10.00
  • Tutor: Rosie, 5 sessions
  • Age: 6-16
  • Description: In this block we will be starting to work our way through Broadway dance and the magic of the musicals. We'll start the class off by understanding the history of Broadway dance, and the styles that make it what it is - how we define this style of dance and what sort of technique is used. In some classes we might also watch a video that demonstrates that style and comment on it. We'll also look at different choreographers, practitioners and musicals worthy of note - musicals that changed or challenged the genre. Then we will run through a warm up, stretch routine and dance technique work related to the style. Then we will have a stimulus (such as a lyric, an image, an idea or a video) and put together our own short piece of choreography to a song from the style. We will learn a short routine in the style. And we will finish with a cool down and bow. To improve our physical fitness and mental wellbeing. To learn and improve on new skills within dance. To understand the historical and cultural impact different styles of dance have had on the art form we see today and how this has developed over time.
