  • Description: Dance Around The World (part 2). Join me in block two as we dance around the world in 10 weeks over two blocks. Over the 10 weeks we'll be learning about popular dance styles from around the world. (block one is the first 5 weeks, this block two introduces the second set of 5 weeks) We'll start the class off by understanding the history of the dance style, and the styles that make it what it is - how we define this style of dance & what sort of technique is used. In some classes we might also watch a video that demonstrates that style & comment on it as a group. We will also look at how this dance relates to the culture & in some cases the part it plays in the culture from which it comes. Then we will run through a warm up, stretch routine & dance technique work related to the style. Then we will have a piece of music in the style of the dance & students will put together their own short piece of choreography (our own dance moves) to a piece of music from the style, with the opportunity to show it within the class. Some weeks we will also learn a short routine in the style. And we will finish with a cool down & bow. Cultural Awareness: Develop an understanding & appreciation of dance as an integral part of different cultures around the world. Geographic Knowledge: Learn about the geography & history of the regions associated with each dance style taught in the class. Dance Styles: Explore a variety of dance styles from different countries & regions, such as Bollywood, Salsa, African dance, Flamenco, & more. Movement Skills: Improve dance technique, including posture, balance, coordination, & rhythm, while adapting to the unique movements of each dance style. Expression & Creativity: Encourage students to express themselves through dance, adapting movements & storytelling elements from different cultures. Respect and Inclusivity: Promote respect for diverse cultures & dance traditions, fostering an inclusive & respectful environment in the classroom.
