  • Behind the Scenes at the Zoo!

A joyful, hands-on learning block for children aged 5 - 8 years (age just a guide)

Step into the keeper’s boots and discover what really happens behind the scenes at the zoo. Over five playful, interactive online sessions, children will explore how animals are cared for, what keepers do each day, and how zoos create safe, enriching homes for creatures big and small. Each week includes simple, creative activities using everyday materials, perfect for curious young learners.

    Across the block, children will:

Meet the different people who work at the zoo and learn how they care for animals

Explore animal diets and design their own “feeding time” menus

Create enrichment ideas to keep animals active, happy, and busy

Design habitats and zoo enclosures inspired by real animal needs

This block is designed to be inclusive, low-pressure, and full of imagination. Children can join with just paper, pencils, and a few recycling materials. Every session celebrates creativity, confidence, and curiosity about the natural world.

Perfect for animal lovers, budding keepers, and children who enjoy hands-on, story-rich learning.

KS1 Topic Tutor

Hi, I'm Kat! I'm a mum of two, living in beautiful North Devon with my family and our two cheeky cats. I love spending time outdoors — whether that’s paddle boarding, coastal walks, or growing my own vegetables in the garden. Cooking is a big passion of mine, and I enjoy bringing creativity and fun into everything I do. My favourite colour is blue, and I believe learning should be a joyful, hands-on experience where children feel inspired and confident to explore the world around them

“After a year of mostly science and art, my child has recently started Creative Writing class. From the first lesson I was blown away by the quality of the teaching, the standard of work the children were submitting and the supportive environment of the group. The tutor has a fantastic rapport with her students and it is also so nice (and great for their self-confidence) to see the students give each other great feedback and encouragement.”

Louise, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent
