  • Shakespeare Reimagined - Writing from the Perspective of Characters

What if Juliet had written in her diary after meeting Romeo? What if the witches from Macbeth kept a secret journal? What if Bottom from A Midsummer Night’s Dream told the story from his point of view?

In this creative writing block, students will step inside Shakespeare’s most famous plays and explore them through the eyes of the characters. Rather than studying Shakespeare in a traditional way, we will reimagine scenes, rewrite events and create original pieces inspired by the stories, characters and themes that have captivated audiences for over 400 years.

Each week, students will explore a different play through extracts, discussion and creative activities before producing their own writing. Along the way, they will develop skills in characterisation, viewpoint, dialogue, description and storytelling while building confidence with Shakespeare's language and ideas in an accessible and engaging way.

By the end of the block, students will have created a portfolio of original writing inspired by Shakespeare's plays and will have discovered that Shakespeare’s characters are not so different from us after all.

  • Course Objectives:

Week 1: To infer a character's thoughts and feelings from a Shakespearean text.

Week 2: To use dialogue effectively to develop character and plot.

Week 3: To explore how a character's choices influence events in a story.

Week 4: To compare different perspectives and retell events from an alternative viewpoint.

Week 5: To apply characterisation and storytelling techniques to create an original Shakespeare-inspired piece of writing.

Amy L

English Tutor

Hi everyone! I’m Amy and I’ve been a private tutor since 2020.
I previously worked as a teacher where I taught in almost every year you can think of! I’ve worked in mainstream, independent and special schools.
I’m passionate about every child being able to access an education that is right for them and I’m excited to be a part of that!
During my time as a teacher, I worked with students with very high anxiety and as a result I’m an empathetic tutor and always aim for students to feel safe and secure in my lessons first and foremost. I also like to produce fun and engaging lessons that focus on topics that students are actually interested in!
I love travelling, reading and spending time at home with my baby, husband and dog! I also run my own greeting card company and have sold over 50,000 designs!
I am so excited to be joining the hub and to meet you all. I am a huge advocate for home education and I love what the £2 hub stands for! I hope to see in my lessons soon!

Parent Comments

“I would like to say thank you for the service you provided, you have always been very helpful whenever I had any questions. Primarily you offer a great service, doing lessons online and watching the videos was a game changer for my daughter as she could watch them at home on her own schedule. Subsequently this has allowed her to take 2 additional GCSEs that she would not have done other wise. Thank you very much”

David, parent

“Thank you so much for everything!! You have been an absolute life saver. There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine my son taking any GCSEs at all, and here we are ploughing through the past papers and sending him off to exams with a calm and confident son. Extraordinary! Thank goodness for you and your efforts to help kids like him - we will be eternally grateful.”

Ruth, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent
