  • Block 6: How to Survive Anything (informative writing)

    In this imaginative five-week block, students will develop their informative writing skills through one exciting question… how do you survive anything in a fantasy world?

    From dragon battles and magical storms to cursed forests and mysterious creatures, each lesson will challenge students to write clear, structured and engaging survival guides based on creative scenarios.

    Students will learn how to organise information, write step-by-step instructions and explain ideas clearly, all while exploring imaginative and unusual situations. They will practise using precise language, logical sequencing and engaging detail to guide their reader through each scenario.

    By the end of the block, students will have created a collection of fantasy-inspired informative writing pieces that showcase both their creativity and their ability to communicate ideas effectively.

  • Course Objectives:

    Understand the features and purpose of informative writing

    Use clear structure and organisation to present information effectively

    Write step-by-step instructions using precise and concise language

    Develop detailed explanations to support and guide the reader

    Edit and refine writing to improve clarity, accuracy and impact

Hi everyone! I’m Amy and I’ve been a private tutor since 2020. I previously worked as a teacher where I taught in almost every year you can think of! I’ve worked in mainstream, independent and special schools. I’m passionate about every child being able to access an education that is right for them and I’m excited to be a part of that! During my time as a teacher, I worked with students with very high anxiety and as a result I’m an empathetic tutor and always aim for students to feel safe and secure in my lessons first and foremost. I also like to produce fun and engaging lessons that focus on topics that students are actually interested in! I love travelling, reading and spending time at home with my baby, husband and dog! I also run my own greeting card company and have sold over 50,000 designs! I am so excited to be joining the hub and to meet you all. I am a huge advocate for home education and I love what the £2 hub stands for! I hope to see in my lessons soon!
