  • STAND ALONE BLOCK. Description: Crime and Punishment. Join us on a journey through history, as we explore Crime and Punishment from the Vicious Vikings to the Vile Victorians! We will discover the legacy of the Roman justice system and crime and punishment through the Anglo-Saxon, Tudor and Victorian periods in Britain and take a look at some of the most ghastly punishments through the ages! What ‘Ordeals’ did the Anglo Saxons dish out to find out if you were guilty of a crime? Who was Dick Turpin? How DID the Tudors earn their gruesome reputation? Let’s find out together and travel through time to figure out how the justice system devalued into what it is today. During this block, children will learn: To develop chronological knowledge To be able to address historically valid questions about change, cause, similarity and difference and significance To understand how our knowledge of the past is constructed from a range of sources and that different versions of past events may exist, giving some reasons for this To note connections, contrasts and trends over time and develop the appropriate use of historical terms.
