About this course

  • £10.00
  • 5 sessions (live or recorded, 45-55 minutes long)
  • Time: 9am
    Start Date: 8th September 2026
  • Age: 11+ (Ages are a guide)

Content

  • Self and Family

This course assumes prior knowledge of KS2 French. Children should already be familiar with basics including numbers, colours, greetings, dates and also lots of other topics at a vocabulary level. They may know lots of family members, animals, clothing, weather, food etc but have mostly concentrated on speaking and may not yet have learnt any or much grammar.

This course is designed for students aged 11+ who already have some knowledge of French from KS2. It is not suitable for complete beginners, as we will move at a much faster pace.

Our first topic is Self and Family (Moi et ma famille). Over five weeks, students will learn how to talk and write about themselves and their families in greater detail. Alongside learning/revising useful vocabulary, we will explore important grammar concepts that will help students create their own sentences confidently and accurately.

Students will learn how to describe family members, talk about personality and appearance, use the key verbs être and avoir, understand possessive adjectives such as mon, ma and mes, and apply adjective agreement correctly.

Lessons will be fun, interactive and include a variety of games, but there will be a stronger emphasis on grammar, reading and writing than in a typical KS2 French class.

Please note this course will be the same or very similar to the KS3 Year 1 class offered 2 years ago but will give an opportunity to new students to take part in a live class.

  • Course Objectives:

At the end of the block, most students will be able to:

Identify and use vocabulary for family members

Use possessive adjectives (mon, ma, mes, ton, ta, tes, etc.) accurately

Describe people's hair and eyes and size

Describe personality using a range of character adjectives

Understand and apply adjective agreement (masculine, feminine and plural forms)

Recognise, understand and use the high-frequency verbs être and avoir

    Specialist Resources Needed:

Pen and notebook, 6 number dice and worksheets will be uploaded to the dashboard each week.

Tutor

Angela .

French Tutor

Bonjour, I’m Angela, the French teacher in the Hub.
I’m a mum of 2 grown up children and a qualified MFL teacher with many years’ experience.
I have been teaching secondary French in the Hub for 3 years and started the primary French lessons last year. I have also done a couple of blocks of Beginners German pre-recorded lessons. I am a full-time self-employed tutor of French and the majority of my students are home educated.
I love languages and am currently teaching myself Spanish. Along with language learning, my other passion is travelling and in fact, language learning and foreign travel complement each other wonderfully as together, they provide a richer, more informed life experience allowing for deeper cultural immersion and a better understanding of other cultures, customs and traditions.
I have loved meeting some of your lovely children and hope to continue working with them and meeting new ones. I try to make all my lessons fun as that is how we all learn best and so there are plenty of interactive games and a variety of different activities and also songs for the younger students.

Parent Comments

“I would like to say thank you for the service you provided, you have always been very helpful whenever I had any questions. Primarily you offer a great service, doing lessons online and watching the videos was a game changer for my daughter as she could watch them at home on her own schedule. Subsequently this has allowed her to take 2 additional GCSEs that she would not have done other wise. Thank you very much”

David, parent

“Thank you so much for everything!! You have been an absolute life saver. There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine my son taking any GCSEs at all, and here we are ploughing through the past papers and sending him off to exams with a calm and confident son. Extraordinary! Thank goodness for you and your efforts to help kids like him - we will be eternally grateful.”

Ruth, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent
