  • STAND ALONE BLOCK. Description: Fractions. A block on Fractions aimed roughly at ages 11-14. Learn what a fraction is, why we need them, how to work out equivalent fractions and how to simplify them. How to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions and mixed numbers. Links between fractions, decimals and percentages. L/O: • consolidate numerical and mathematical capability from key stage 2 and extend understanding of the number system and place value to include fractions, • express one quantity as a fraction of another, where the fraction is less than 1 and greater than 1, • move freely between different numerical, algebraic, graphical and diagrammatic representations with equivalent fractions, fractions and decimals, • use the four operations, including formal written methods, applied to integers, proper and improper fractions, and mixed numbers, all both positive and negative.
