Breath of Life: We will delve into the mysteries of respiration, from investigating the respiration of dead yeast cells and exploring signs of life in various organisms to understanding the circulatory system, heart, and post-exercise pulse rates. The exploration continues with an examination of the impact of exercise on breathing rates, a hands-on encounter with real lungs, and an intriguing investigation into the composition of inhaled and exhaled air using a burning candle. This comprehensive program offers a holistic understanding of the respiratory system, fostering scientific curiosity and critical thinking skills among participants. - Investigate respiration in dead yeast cells and identify signs of life in various organisms. - Understand the circulatory system, including the heart's role, and measure pulse rates before, during, and after exercise. - Explore the relationship between exercise and breathing rate, and comprehend the key components of the respiratory system. - Examine real lungs (sheep or pig) to understand anatomy and breathing mechanisms. - Investigate differences in the composition of inhaled and exhaled air, and observe the effects on a burning candle. - Synthesise knowledge gained, present findings cohesively, and reflect on the importance of respiratory health. - Develop observational, data collection, and critical thinking skills throughout the program.
