Content

  • Biology: Cells and Organisation

This block serves as an excellent starting point for KS3 biology and doesn’t require previous knowledge. However, it lays the foundation for future topics such as reproduction, digestion, respiration, and ecosystems by introducing students to cells, specialised structures, and body systems.

Biology: Cells and Organisation is a hands-on block that takes students on a journey from the tiniest building blocks of life to the complex systems that keep our bodies moving!

Across five interactive lessons, learners will get to grips with microscopes, discover what makes plant, animal, and bacterial cells unique, and explore how cells combine to form tissues, organs, and systems. From the secrets of muscle movement to the role of the skeleton, this block is packed with practical science, visual models, and fun challenges that make tricky concepts easy to understand.

Perfect for budding biologists or anyone who's ever wondered what they're made of!

  • Specialist
    Resources Needed:

A more detailed list will be provided at the start of the block. However no major specialist equipment is needed, but students may benefit from having:

A pen/pencil and notebook or science folder

Printed worksheets which will be put on the dashboard

Access to a microscope (optional - I will suggest a few), but I will demo all microscope work.

Basic craft materials for model-making (paper, scissors, elastic bands) will be useful.

    Course Objectives:

By the end of this block, students will be able to:

Use a microscope to observe cells and understand magnification.

Identify and compare the structures of plant, animal, and bacterial cells.

Explain how specialised cells are adapted for their functions.

Describe the levels of organisation in multicellular organisms.

Understand the role of the skeleton and muscles in movement.

Tutor

Carrie Ann .

Science Tutor

My name is Carrie Ann Booth 👩🏼‍🔬🧪💥 and I teach Primary Science, KS3 Science, IGCSE Biology, IGCSE Chemistry and IGCSE Marine Science.

I have a degree in Biochemistry with Science Communication and over 20 years of experience teaching science in schools, online, and through hands-on workshops and shows. Alongside teaching in the hub, I am also the founder of The Science Booth, where I bring science to life for thousands of children each year through explosive demos, practical investigations, and unforgettable learning experiences.

My teaching style is all about “serious science learning… but not too serious!” I believe children learn best when they are encouraged to ask questions, get messy, explore ideas, and see the real-world magic of science for themselves. My lessons are energetic, engaging, and full of curiosity, creativity, and wow moments.

Science matters because it shapes the future. Today’s curious children could become tomorrow’s:

👩🏼‍🔬 Doctors 👨🏽‍🔬 Research Scientists 👩🏼‍🔧 Engineers 👨🏻‍💻 Innovators 👩🏾‍🚀 Space Explorers 👨🏼‍🔬 Marine Biologists 👩🏻‍💻 Technology Creators

More than anything, I want children to leave my sessions feeling confident, curious, and excited to learn. If we can inspire children to question, investigate, and think scientifically, those are skills they will carry with them for life… and who knows, we may even inspire a future Nobel Prize winner along the way!
