  • Law on Holiday: What Happens when Fun Goes Wrong?

    Sunshine, rollercoasters, airports, beaches, festivals…

    It’s the season when young people head out to the places they love but behind every ride, every crowd, every pool, and every plane is a world of law they’ve never been taught. In this exciting, real‑world Law block, learners dive into the hidden rules that keep theme parks, waterparks, airports, hotels, festivals, and shopping centres safe.

    Through shocking true cases, dramatic clips, and scenario‑based challenges, learners uncover what really happens when things go wrong, and who is legally responsible when they do.

    From the Smiler crash at Alton Towers, to festival crowd disasters, to air‑rage arrests, to hotel negligence abroad, this block shows learners the law that protects them, the rights they didn’t know they had, and the surprising crimes people commit on holiday without even realising.

    It’s practical.

    It’s dramatic.

    It’s the law they’ll actually use in real life.

  • Course Objectives:

    Explain the key legal duties owed by theme parks, festivals, airports, hotels, and public venues, and understand how negligence, occupiers’ liability, and safety regulations protect the public.

    Apply real‑world law to dramatic scenarios involving rides, crowds, flights, pools, hotels, and shopping centres, deciding who is legally responsible when accidents, injuries, or crimes occur.

    Evaluate the fairness and effectiveness of safety laws in popular leisure environments, debating whether companies, venues, and individuals do enough to prevent harm, and what should change.

Business IGCSE, Law, Criminology Tutor

Hello! I’m Carla and I teach a variety of Secondary Social Science sessions in the Hub. These currently includes Business, Law and Criminology. I am a Freelance Educator who enjoys a variety of roles. My most recent role outside of the Hub has been a Deputy Headteacher which I have thoroughly enjoyed. I am also an Educational Advisor for Claire House and examiner with a leading exam board. I have almost 20 years’ teaching experience and have led the pastoral care of students for the vast majority of my career. I have vast experience of leading Alternative Provision within the secondary system and that is why I adore the Hub and our learners within it soooooo much. I am based close to my home city of Liverpool, have three children and two cats. I love music and always start my sessions with a song whilst everyone is joining. During my free time you will find me exploring the UK and France in our caravan. Hope to see you soon in one of my sessions.
