Content

  • In this block we will look at classifying minibeasts, the lifecycles of insects, the pollination process and habitats. We will conduct a habitat experiment and an experiment to find out why spiders don't stick to their own webs. We will also create some art and craft a butterfly feeder for the garden.

  • L/O: 1) : I can classify invertebrates. I can ask general and specific questions. I understand open and closed questions. (Additional – if you choose to tale the learning that way – counting in 2s, maths vocabulary of pairs) 2) I know what an insect is. I understand the insect lifecycle and how it differs from the bird lifecycle. I know what butterflies eat and how flowers attract insects. (Additional – if you choose to go that way – maths symmetry) 3) : I can describe some parts of a bee. I know that insects see differently to humans. I can describe the part bees play in the pollination process. 4) I understand the snail habitat. I understand the snail/slug’s part in the food chain. I can experiment to find out a snail’s preferred food. I can observe and describe how snails move. (Additional: Snail race could become a maths timing or measuring activity) 5) I can take inspiration from great artists. I can make artistic choices in collage work. I understand how a spider catches its prey. I can experiment with the properties of materials.

Tutor

Amanda .

Primary French, Nature & R.E. Tutor

Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m the teacher of Primary French and Learning with Nature in the Hub. I’m a mum to 3 grown up children (one of each) and Granny to one lively 3 year-old who insists I read his French books every time he comes for a sleepover! I’m a primary school teacher and I’ve been teaching French to this age group since 1995! I love that it is a subject that ALL children can achieve in and that it helps with English grammar, spelling and attention to detail as well as being fun! I’ve even published some books with Ladybird and Brilliant publications in this field. As well as teaching in the Hub, I run a little business helping people to get outside more often (which is how I met Amy ) and this links in really closely to our Learning with Nature classes which are primary science linked with a belief that the best way to love our planet is to learn to love nature (can you tell I was Eco-Schools coordinator at school?). These are my 2 passion subjects in school and I just love passing that on to your youngsters!

“I can’t thank you enough for starting this group Amy. You gave me back my happy (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks to this group he’s realised he’s not the stupid, naughty kid that school made him believe he was. His sister is on school holidays and he’s doing recorded lessons by choice. Xxxx ”

“This group is without doubt an absolute blessing. Fantastic classes with amazing teachers at an extremely reasonable price. I for one am so thankful to you and your team for everything you all do. We appreciate the hub so much and are very grateful xx ”

Claire, Parent

“Our family are full time travellers and the hub is a life line for us. The children get to see and speak to adults who show a real interest in their learning and their lives. They get to pick lessons that they are interested in and have fun learning something new. The social hub was a real life line for us too. My 3 have made friends and love getting to chat to children and adults daily too. ”

Donna, Parent

“£2 tuition hub was the best resource I found my entire time home educating. I’m still currently using the £2 Hub 3 years later”

Maxine, Parent

“Fantastic group has helped us through 3+ years of home ed, wish we knew of you before that when we first started ”

Sharon, Parent

“We have been taking part in the BSL lessons and the other day had great fun finger spelling while shopping. Two of my children have dyslexia with T being more severe, he hates and refuses spellings. Along comes BSL and he’s loving spellings!” ”
