About this course

  • £14.00
  • Tutor: Hannah Y, 7 sessions (2 pre-recorded)
  • Age: 5+
  • Description: This block will use Lego to help your children understand forces and motion as they create models to help them investigate the cause and effect of push and pull forces. New mini project every week that can be developed in your child's own time if they like! Hannah has the Lego BrickQ Motion Essential 45401 set, which you can get direct from Lego. However this is NOT essential, you can use whatever parts you have already or supplement your own collection with a few extra parts. Please send Lego photos or videos to [email protected] for the gallery. Learning objectives covered: "In these sessions, I will introduce participants to fun project ideas that they can make using their Lego. They'll design their own models to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull. We will: * Explore how pushing and pulling affects an object's motion * Explore how pushing on an object can change the speed or direction of its motion, and start or stop its movement * Explore how gears of different sizes push each other, which makes them move faster or slower * Explore the effects of different strengths of push and pull forces on the motion of an object * See how a rack and pinion mechanism works to convert a linear pull into a rotational push * Explore and explain how force and friction can change the speed of an object and affect how far it'll go in a push car race * Explore the force of gravity and use it to balance a tightrope walker * Explore the effects of different strengths of wind pushing on an object to move a sail car.
