Content

  • Music Video

    The study of music video started in Block 9 but Blocks 7, 8 and 9 should be completed prior to this block.

    This is Block 10 of Media Studies, which focuses on a range of media texts, both print and digital. We will look at their history and development including advances in technology and changes in the social roles of individuals and groups in society reflecting on the influences that have shaped media as it is today. So far, we have studied newspapers and magazines, television programmes and radio programmes over six blocks. We learned about their history, how meaning is conveyed by media texts, their production values and the roles of those involved in media.

    In Blocks 7 to 9, we completed our film study, looking at how a film is studied and analysed, including the subject terminology used and the production values involved. We began the study of music video in Block 9 and will be continuing this in Block 10. You should do Blocks 7 to 9 before starting this one.

  • Music video shares many similarities in technique with film, but has its own vocabulary and an interesting history.

    We’ll learn the terminology used to analyse music videos and review some of the most famous and expensive.

    Course Objectives:

    To learn the history and development of the music video and to understand how to write about it using the correct terminology.

I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.
