  • STAND ALONE BLOCK. Description: Moving Images - television. Block 4 of Media Studies continues to focus on a range of media texts, both print and digital. We will look at their history and development including advances in technology and changes in the social roles of individuals and groups in society reflecting on the influences that have shaped media as it is today. This will include newspapers and magazines, television programmes, radio programmes and films. How do they convey meaning? How are they made and by whom? In our fourth block we will extend our understanding of moving image media practising the language used to describe these texts. Having considered television advertising in Block 3, we will widen our understanding of television, looking at different types of programmes including soap operas, situation comedies, documentaries, quiz shows and reality television. NOTE: This is a continuing course and although each block has a separate focus, it will helpful to complete previous blocks (available as recordings) before moving on to Block 4 activities as previous activities and media terminology will be referenced. This is not a GCSE course, but the content of the course includes all topics covered for GCSE. L/O: To understand the history and development of media texts and the ways in which they convey meaning.
