Content

  • This term, we'll be building paper robots! Whether it’s your child's first electronics project or they've got some experience and they're looking for creative ways to show off their skills, this block offers a perfect hands-on S.T.E.A.M project to allow their creativity shine. They will have easy-to-follow instructions and guidance from me over the 5 sessions where we will be creating 4* paper robots: a paper Pet, Cheerbot, Spinny Box and even a Lifty Crane that are programable with the micro:bit. *The micro:bit board will need to be reused each session - unless you have more than one micro:bit! I will be using a kit in the sessions which is available for you to purchase using the link below. It includes everything you need to get started building paper robots using the micro:bit. You can order the micro:bit paper robot kit here: https://www.okdo.com/p/okdo-microbit-build-a-paper-robot-kit/?utm_source=edu-109&utm_medium=referral Please note, this set includes a micro:bit, micro USB cable and templates printed on card.

  • You are of course welcome to source your own components or use things you already have. Here is the list of what you need: 1x micro:bit v2 board 1x micro USB cable 1x standard micro Servo 1x continuous rotation micro servo 3x crocodile to male jumper pin leads 1x Crocodile clip lead Print out of the robot templates Tin foil Scissors Coloured pens for decorating. These components will need to be reused for each robot. You will need to print out the robot templates. Thin card works best. Some parents/carers have requested that I put together a kit that includes the extra components WITHOUT the micro:bit so I have a limited number available to order. Please email [email protected] for more details. (If you are also ordering a lighthouse kit for the STEAM project, they can be sent together to save postage!) You can purchase additional micro:bit boards here: https://www.okdo.com/p/bbc-microbit-v2-go-starter-kit/?utm_source=edu-109&utm_medium=referral

Hannah Y

STEAM, Coding, Lego & JapanTutor

Hello! I’m Hannah – the founder of Story STEAM – inspiring your children in all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Coding and Lego! So, a little bit about me… Since completing my BEd Primary Studies (hons) with a specialism in Design Technology, I’ve been a teacher (Reception to Year 6) for over 20 years. In between those 20+ years, I moved to Nara, Japan to take part in the JET (Japanese Exchange and Teaching) programme where I taught English as an additional language to middle-schoolers and adults for 3 years. On returning to live in the UK, I was given responsibility for English and ICT/Computing in the school I worked in. Fast forward to 2020 and remote teaching planted a seed in my mind. During the lockdowns, I spent time reflecting and thinking about what children are not getting at school that I could bring to them online. Story STEAM was born! My son Tomi loves helping with my classes – testing out ideas – especially with coding and micro:bit! Children need time to invent and be creative; it’s good for their mental health. Through STEAM, Coding and Lego Club activities, I hope to give children the opportunity to create while using maths, learning about science, technology, engineering and most importantly – HAVE FUN!

“I can’t thank you enough for starting this group Amy. You gave me back my happy (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks to this group he’s realised he’s not the stupid, naughty kid that school made him believe he was. His sister is on school holidays and he’s doing recorded lessons by choice. Xxxx ”

“This group is without doubt an absolute blessing. Fantastic classes with amazing teachers at an extremely reasonable price. I for one am so thankful to you and your team for everything you all do. We appreciate the hub so much and are very grateful xx ”

Claire, Parent

“Our family are full time travellers and the hub is a life line for us. The children get to see and speak to adults who show a real interest in their learning and their lives. They get to pick lessons that they are interested in and have fun learning something new. The social hub was a real life line for us too. My 3 have made friends and love getting to chat to children and adults daily too. ”

Donna, Parent

“£2 tuition hub was the best resource I found my entire time home educating. I’m still currently using the £2 Hub 3 years later”

Maxine, Parent

“Fantastic group has helped us through 3+ years of home ed, wish we knew of you before that when we first started ”

Sharon, Parent

“We have been taking part in the BSL lessons and the other day had great fun finger spelling while shopping. Two of my children have dyslexia with T being more severe, he hates and refuses spellings. Along comes BSL and he’s loving spellings!” ”
