  • STAND ALONE BLOCK. Description: Lord of the Flies (Block 2). BLOCK 2 OF 3 – MODERN TEXTS – “LORD OF THE FLIES” We are continuing reading and discussing the popular novel “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate; this far from civilization the boys can do anything they want. Anything. They attempt to forge their own society, failing, however, in the face of terror, sin and evil. And as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far from reality as the hope of being rescued. We will find out about the background against which the play was set, the characters and the language and structure of the script. This is a GCSE text for the main exam boards and this will be referenced during our studies. All resources will be provided. NOTE: This is Block 2 of 3. L/O: To understand the plot, themes, structure, characters and language in the novel "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding.
